ABOUT THE INITIATIVE and OPPORTUNITY: Healthy Eating Initiative (Community) Gardens are clearing out the remaining summer harvest and preparing for fall. The fall planting season is just beginning, and assistance is always welcome.
Two of the three community gardens - LaDeara Crest and Grace need volunteers to help. LaDeara Crest, which began in 2017, is the largest site and has the highest need. There are nine in-ground ‘beds’ in a large, fenced area of their community center. The following list some projects:
- repair/replacement of worn wood panel around the garden beds (4 beds)
- weeding, turning the soil, replenishment of the soil, fall planting preparation, planting/labeling of the fall crops (all)
