Reynolds Days of Caring 2022 supporting Family Services (Silent Witnesses)

Expired

Description

In preparation for Domestic Violence Awareness month (October) we are hoping to have some volunteers help us spruce up our Silent Witnesses---see photo attached.  Silent Witnesses are a very power representation of domestic violence in our community.   The witnesses are silhouettes of real victims in Forsyth County with their story on a chest plate.  When they are displayed together, they make quite an impression.  We are planning to display the Silent Witnesses on Friday, October 7th in Bailey Park as a kick off to DV Awareness Month.  We are also planning out Day of Unity, when we honor those lost in the last year to domestic violence, for lunchtime on the 7th in the park and will have an information table throughout the day.

The Silent Witnesses were made for us by Glenn High School 10+ years ago and you can imagine they have seen some wear and tear over the years with moving them around.  We’d love some volunteers to help us sand, repaint and spruce up those that need screws tightened, etc.  We are working on getting new chest plates for the witnesses as well.

Date: September 2022 (before event day - Friday, October 7, 2022)

Time: 1-4 PM

Number of Volunteers Needed: 5 -10

Multiple dates are available; additional dates may be added

OF NOTE: One of these Silent Witnesses is a former Reynolds employee. Here's his story:

James

Age 56
October 11, 1999
After retiring from RJ Reynolds Tobacco, James had worked as a charter bus driver.  Friends found him shot to death in his home.  His former girlfriend, who had been convicted in the 70’s of killing her first husband, was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.
